Community Support

The Markwell Group has long been a supporter of community organisations throughout North Queensland. The Group has actively demonstrated their commitment to community improvement through charities, fund-raising and sporting activities. This commitment has been demonstrated again with their involvement in the Beacon Foundation.


Below is a small but diverse section of the community that has been supported by the Markwell Group

  • The Beacon Foundation is a non-profit organisation seeking to overcome youth unemployment at schools throughout Australia. The Markwell Group supported the Foundation's initiative when Gavin Markwell, managing director of Markwell, attended the auction of, and purchased, a Komatsu excavator painted by legendary artist Pro Hart. Gavin's purchase helped to raise $90,000 for the Foundation.

    The Markwell Group Pro Hart Excavator toured Australia throughout 2002. With the final homecoming of this unique artwork to Townsville, the Markwell Group proposes to use it to promote community involvement in further projects.

    Beacon's Mission Statement ... The Beacon Foundation is a National not-for-profit organisation, that seeks to influence the attitudes and culture of Australians so that each young person develops an independent will to achieve personal success for themselves and their community.

    A key strategy of Beacon is to initiate original and innovative projects that demonstrate solutions to youth unemployment and encourage self-help at the local level.
