The Markwell Group are environmentally conscious, recycled concrete is only one of the initiatives the Markwell Group have.

Upon receipt of concrete ruble from our demolition sites and from other customers we produce a product that is reused.

The process consists of utilising Markwell Excavators and pulverisers to prepare the concrete before being fed into various crushers and screens.

We then produce a product to suit our clients needs including main roads, such as: Subtype 2.1 (MR001) 2.3 (MR003) 2.5 (MR005), minus 75mm, minus 100mm, Bulk fill products, Crushed Deco, Gabion Stone, River Rock as well as Drainage Aggregates and Crusher Dust.

Markwell Group Turns 40

2020 will mark the 40th anniversary for local family business G & G Markwell and the company shows no sign of slowing down, in fact we continue to grow having finished 2019 on a high and already in full swing for 2020 having acquired another 10 pieces of plant to cover the workload with more on the way.

G & G Markwell started with humble beginnings demolishing houses with a couple of employees and quickly grew into the company as it stands today employing at times in excess of 100 local people for projects all over Qld and PNG , The company has suffered Its share of hardships along the way with economic downturns and of course the devastating GFC but the company has managed to weather those storms and come back stronger each time which is why 40 years is so remarkable and such a fabulous sense of achievement as in that time we have sadly seen the demise of many other businesses in north Queensland.

The company now has 4 divisions,
1. Plant hire

Comprising of a fleet of excavators, loaders, articulated dump trucks, skid steer loaders and rollers as well as a fleet of trucks ranging from rigid body tip trucks to semi tippers and floats.

2. Demolition
Consisting of a team of highly experienced staff and we take on all jobs no matter how small or large.

3. Crushing.
Providing concrete and quarry crushing as well as recycling our own concrete stocks into various products for resale.

4. NQDR (North Queensland demolition recycling)
This is where we sell to the public the majority of second-hand products that we retrieve from demolition of buildings from large steel beams down to glass louvres, doors, windows etc. This site covers approx. 2 acres of land, so we normally have plenty to choose from.

All our departments are backed up by a fully equipped workshop manned by 10>12 tradespeople and we have just extended to add another area for 3 boilermakers. Our emphasis is on proactive servicing and repairs to limit downtime for our customers.

It is hard to say how many local people G & G Markwell’s have employed over the last 40 years, but it certainly must be in the thousands.

I think that G&G Markwell is a shining example of what can be achieved if you put in the effort and never give up, The one thing that successful business people will tell you is that the 1 main ingredient to being successful is plain hard work but if your willing to put in and don’t give up, take a few chances then anything is possible.
